Until February 26, Luis López will be performing his rarely shown acrobatic performance of the art of the boleadoras. Luis López, born in Argentina and a permanent member of the Cirque du Soleil since 1985, was not only responsible for the choice of artists, but trained them himself and developed his own choreographies. Before returning home, he will be showing his unique program at Chamäleon for seven weeks.

The boleadoras is made of three ropes, up to 1.5m in length, that are tied together to form a star. Stones or lead pellets serve as weights at the tip of each rope. It was originally a throwing weapon of South American hunters and cattle herders, but is now used as an accessory in an acrobatic performance.

In a fascinating way, for the the unbelievable speed of the boleadoras is impressive. Different, rotating shapes buzz and whir through the air. Movement becomes audible and when the balls hit the ground, they create a rythm, steadily increasing its pace and of intoxicating strength and energy. This is how, together with the traditional dance of the gauchos, the Malambo, the boleadoras are turned into a form of art.
