The CNCC is delighted to have been selected as one of the key venues for the APEC series of meetings in 2014. The 2014 Economic Leaders’ Meeting (AELM) will be held at Beijing’s Yanqi Lake, located in the scenic Yanqi Township, Huairou District, 60 kilometers and about 30 minutes’ drive North from the CNCC and about 30 minutes’ drive from Beijing Capital International Airport. Other major meetings of the APEC 2014 Economic Leaders’ Week will be held at the China National Convention Center, in the heart of the Olympic Park, adjacent to the Bird Nest and the Water Cube which served as the main media center and international broadcasting center as well as the venue for fencing and air pistol events during the 2008 Summer Olympics.
In 2001, APEC adopted the Shanghai Accord, which focused on “Broadening the APEC Vision, Clarifying the Roadmap to Bogor and Strengthening the Implementation Mechanism”. The e-APEC Strategy was adopted, which set out an agenda to strengthen market structures and institutions, facilitate infrastructure investment and technology for on-line transactions and promote entrepreneurship and human capacity building. APEC’s first Counter-Terrorism Statement was issued.
APEC returns to China after a 13 year gap; in 2001 it was held in Shanghai this time it will be held in Beijing in November 2014. Meetings include informal leadership meetings, the Ministerial Conference, senior officials and various other meetings series. The theme of the summit is: “To build for the future of the Asia-Pacific partnership”.
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) is the premier forum for facilitating economic growth, cooperation, trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region. APEC was established in 1989 to further enhance economic growth and prosperity for the region and to strengthen the Asia-Pacific community.
APEC is an intergovernmental grouping that operates on the basis of non-binding commitments, open dialogue and equal respect for the views of all participants. Unlike the WTO or other multilateral trade bodies, APEC has no treaty obligations required of its participants. Decisions made within APEC are reached by consensus and commitments are undertaken on a voluntary basis.
APEC has 21 members – referred to as “member economies” – which account for approximately 40 percent of the world’s population, approximately 55 percent of world GDP and about 44 percent of world trade.

China National Convention Center (CNCC) is owned and operated by the Beijing North Star Company Limited (BNS). Based in Beijing and established in 1997 BNS is a state owned enterprise which, together with its subsidiaries, engages in property development, property management, property investment and retail operations in China.
The company is involved in the development of the commercial areas of the Asian Games and Olympic village in the northern part of Beijing including the Beijing International Convention Center (BICC) and the CNCC. The CNCC Complex comprises of the following facilities in 530,000 square meters (5.3m square feet) gross floor area:
The CNCC Convention Center (over 23,600m2 of function space) and the Exhibition Center (40,000m2 exhibition space)
Two hotels (420 room four star CNCC Grand Hotel and the 337 room five-star Intercontinental Hotel) connected to the Center by walkways

BNS owns several hotels and hotel managed apartments located within 10 minutes of the CNCC. More than 3,200 hotel rooms in hotels and apartments provide full support when the Center hosts major events.
This investment by BNS ensures the CNCC will be supported in delivering a high standard of excellence embodied in its facility, its management and its operations. CNCC is set to start a new era of international standard venues in China.
