After the cancellation of the IT&CM India in New Dehli (planed for August this year) and the Business Travel Market in Düsseldorf. now Reed Travel Exhibitions cancelled the Business Travel Market in London.
Reed Travel Exhibitions (RTE) has cancelled the Business Travel Market ‘due to tough economic conditions putting pressure on customers’ spend and time’.
The fifth edition of the annual corporate travel conference and exhibition was scheduled to take place 6-7 November at ExCeL London, and was to be co-located for the first time with the World Travel Market event.
A statement on the BTM website said it was ‘with regret’ that RTE, in consultation with the industry, had taken the decision to cancel the show. “Due to tough economic conditions putting pressure on customers’ spend and time, we felt it was not possible to deliver an event that would do justice to both the industry and our customers. We thank all our customers and event partners for their valued support of Business Travel Market.”
RTE acquired BTM in 2011 for an undisclosed sum, in a bid to further consolidate the show’s position in Europe and develop its brand in other markets where Reed already operated, capitalising on the synergy between corporate travel and the meetings and events sector. BTM had doubled in size since it was launched in 2009, and its co-location with World Travel Market was set to build upon the business opportunities for its visitors, which included a pan-European hosted buyer programme.
Last month, industry experts at the inaugural Business Travel Market Knowledge Forum in London, the first in a planned series ahead of the show, discussed the stagnation of the business travel market in the UK as other regions saw growth.
