Tanz im August – Now through September 3
Dancers from nineteen different countries will come together at the international dance festival in Berlin to put on a total of thirty-eight productions. The works of both renowned choreographers and the latest newcomers can be experienced at the Akademie der Künste, the HAU (Hebbel am Ufer), or even in the Galeries Lafayette department store. Visitors can get a deeper look into the entire dance scene during workshops, lectures, and film presentations.

Yma – World Premiere on September 2, 2010
A world premiere in Europe’s biggest show palace: starting September 2, 2010, “YMA – Too Beautiful to be True” will enchant Berlin. A diva is at the center of the new production by Berlin’s Friedrichstadtpalast, which promises a new dimension in viewing. The costumes for this, the theater’s costliest production to date, were designed by fashion designer Michael Michalsky.

Jewish Cultural Festival – August 26-September 5, 2010
Classical music and pop, Jewish traditions and the present will set the program for the 24th Jewish Cultural Festival Highpoints will include the world premiere of a reconstruction of Mahler’s final symphony, the Israeli market “Shuk Há Carmel”, and the “Extended Synagogue Night”, which will take place for the first time within the framework of the Jewish Cultural Festival.

First Berlin Music Week
Within the framework of the first Berlin Music Week, three top-quality events in the sector will be taking place at the same time, from September 6 to 12, 2010: PopKomm, All2gethernow, and the Berlin Festival. At this gigantic musical spectacle, the music scene in all its glory and variety will be presented to a broad reaching German and international public.

Berlinvision Song Contest
Local talent will be vying for the honors as the various districts of Berlin come together for the second time on September 7, 2010 for the Berlinvision Song Contest: a genuine German capital version of the European competition. Every district of the city will be represented by Berlin musicians at the local port of Neukölln. An expert jury has decided who will appear, but the winner will be chosen by the audience.

Piano Competition in the Ring: Mingbattle
Mingbattle is the title of a concert event of a very special kind: two concert pianists will compete at the Chamäleon on September 7, 2010 in a relaxed atmosphere for the favor of the public and victory in a six-round piano duel. In each round, a piece will be played from the classical piano literature, with competition judges and the public awarding the points that will be tallied to crown the winner of the evening.

Berlin to Get a Boulevard of the Stars!
On September 10, 2010 the first stars will be revealed on Berlin’s new “Boulevard of the Stars” at the Potsdamer Platz. Golden stars with the names of around forty German film and television personalities will be embedded in the asphalt red carpet. The special attraction is the star cameras which bring the actors to life.

WeltWissen at the Martin Gropius Bau
As the highpoint of the year in science, the Martin Gropius Bau will be showing numerous exhibits from the most varied of disciplines from September 24, 2010 to January 9, 2011 with the overall title “Three Hundred Years of the Sciences in Berlin”. The unique show is the first joint science exhibition in Berlin since the city’s reunification.

Snapshots of Berliners
Giving the general public a loving view of that which is special in Berlin is the intention of the exhibition “Faces of Berlin”, which can still be seen through September 20, 2010 in the foyer of The Story of Berlin. The exhibition features snapshots of Berliners and their favorite buildings. Admission is free of charge!

Faces of the Renaissance: Advance Ticket Sales Have Begun
This year, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin will be the host for the third time to an exhibition in international cooperation with New York. Within the framework of the exhibition “Faces of the Renaissance”, more than 150 masterpieces of the Italian renaissance from New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art, Berlin’s Gemäldegalerie, and other great museums of the world can be seen on Museum Island starting August 25 and continuing through the late summer. Tickets for the exhibition may be reserved effective immediately.
