Joachim Hunold, CEO of Air Berlin, is celebrating his 60th birthday on September 05, 2009. Hunold has been active in the aviation industry since 1978: until 1982, he worked for Braathens Air Transport in Düsseldorf, followed by a position as Director Sales and Marketing with LTU Group. In 1991, Joachim Hunold took over “Air Berlin Inc.“, which was reestablished under his leadership on April 16, 1991 as “Air Berlin GmbH & Co. Luftverkehrs KG”. Ever since the implementation of the new holding structure with effect from January 01, 2006, Joachim Hunold holds the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Under his leadership, Air Berlin has become Germany’s second-largest airline and the fifth-largest airline in European traffic. Even now, flying has lost none of its fascination for Joachim Hunold. “Aviation manager is a profession that cannot be practiced without passion. I am still driven by the desire to fulfil the task that I have taken on one hundred percent,” says the avowed Düsseldorfer.
