Rex, Australia’s largest independent regional and domestic airline, is launching a new Melbourne-to-Perth route. This service, set to commence on June 28, 2024, will operate five days a week on Boeing 737 aircraft, with fares starting at $299. The addition of this route will bring nearly 90,000 seats to one of Australia’s busiest travel corridors.

The competition among airlines on this route is expected to benefit consumers, with Rex known for delivering excellent value for money. The airline consistently outperforms its domestic competitors in terms of on-time performance and cancellation rates. This is particularly important for a long-distance route like Melbourne to Perth, where reliability is crucial. In the first four months of 2024, other airlines canceled a total of 57 flights on this route, and their combined on-time arrival and departure performance was only around 72 percent.

Rex is also planning to announce another new Australian route in the coming days. This expansion has been welcomed by Victorian Minister for Tourism, Sport, and Major Events, Steve Dimopoulos, who is looking forward to the increased number of visitors from Perth to Victoria. The additional flights are expected to enhance tourism in Victoria, allowing more people to reconnect with family and friends and explore the state’s many attractions.

Perth Airport’s chief commercial and aviation officer, Kate Holsgrove, is pleased with Rex’s growing presence in Western Australia. Rex already operates four successful regional services within the state, and the introduction of interstate routes from Terminal 2 highlights the airline’s confidence in the Perth market. This expansion offers more travel options for Western Australians and promises successful new routes with continued collaboration between Perth Airport and the Rex team.
