Total value of world’s top 50 most valuable hotel brands has declined by 33% (US$22.8 billion) as sector negotiates fallout from COVID-19 pandemic
Hilton retains title of world’s most valuable hotel brand, despite recording 30% brand value decrease to US$7.6 billion
Hyatt is fastest growing brand in top 10 and one of only two brands to record brand value growth in top 50, up 4%
New entrant Taj is sector’s strongest, with AAA strength rating
Leisure & tourism brands also take hit, cumulative brand value down 40%
As holidays are cancelled and people are instructed to work from home, the hospitality sector has reached an almost complete standstill both from tourism, as well as corporate travel. As a result, the total value of the top 50 most valuable hotel brands has decreased 33% year-on-year, down from US$70.2 billion in 2020 to US$47.4 billion in 2021, according to the latest Brand Finance Hotels 50 2021 report.

An impressive total of 1,520 hotel schemes with 298,809 keys are currently in the pipeline throughout the US, according to our data. We take a closer look at what’s coming up and highlight some of the most interesting projects.

The remainder of 2021 will be very busy, it seems, with 470 hotels and 94,479 rooms set to launch. Of these, 167 are already in the pre-opening phase.

To emphasize the importance of the MICE industry, the Thai government announced 26 April as National MICE Day, probably the first in Asia.
The selected date reflects the long history of Thailand’s MICE development since the country’s first national trade exhibition was organized on 26 April 1882 during the reign of King Rama V as part of Bangkok Centennial Celebration.
Mr. Chiruit Isarangkun Na Ayuthaya, President, Thailand Convention & Exhibition Bureau (Public Organization) or TCEB, stated that, during the cabinet meeting on June 1, 2021, Mr. Anutin Charnvirakul, Deputy Prime Minister, proposed that National MICE Day be established based on the research the bureau jointly conducted with Convention Promotion Fund.
