Elphinstone Reef, located 6.5 nautical miles from the shore, is a cigar shaped reef in the southern Red Sea. Named after Admiral George Elphinstone, a British naval commander who served in Egypt in the Napoleonic wars, the Elphinstone Reef boasts a diverse marine life and underwater landscapes, making it one of the best diving sites in the Red Sea.

Divers can come close with the oceanic white tip shark. A rare species in other parts of the world, the oceanic white tip sharks’ frequent appearance in the southern Red Sea has made it somewhat representative of this popular diving site.

Besides diving at the Elphinstone Reef, visitors to Egypt can enjoy a cruise along the river Nile, taking in sights of both modern and ancient Egypt. The Nile, being the lifeline of some 90 million human beings, forms the heart of urban planning. With a remarkable 6,695 km gift of sustenance for Egypt and three other countries, river Nile is the longest, and arguably the most vital river in the world.

Visitors can also revisit the routes of ancient Pharaohs touring their empire, and disembark to visit major tourist attractions along the river. Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut’s Temple, Temple of Edfu, the Unfinished Obelisk are some examples of places where you can visit by spending a week on the river Nile.
