GSAR Marketing announces the “Ramon Alvarez In Memoriam Award” as a tribute to its founder, which will be delivered to an international institution or figure for their contributions to the MICE tourism. This prize is part of Grupo Excelencias Awards, that are yearly given in Madrid’s international fair FITUR, where worldwide featured personages from the tourism and gastronomic industries will gather.
Ramon Alvarez had an extensive curriculum in the tourism sector, he started his carrier in American Express, Madrid, from where he was transferred to Los Angeles office. Later, he was District Sales Manager of National Airlines (later Pan Am) and Regional Director of Peruvian Airlines, both in Los Angeles, California. At this time he founded and presided the first Regional Chapter of SATO (South America Travel Organization) in the USA. Based in San Francisco, he was appointed the first Sales Director of Club Med for the USA, assisting to introduce the club into the US market. Ramon Alvarez returned to American Express as staff member of the company’s Travel Division President and put in charge of Special Markets for North and South America, based in the American Express Headquarters in Wall Street, New York.
Hired by Iberia Airlines to open and direct its Incentive and Convention Sales Department for the USA in New York, he was founder of SITE (Society of Incentive Travel Executives), being its first Steering Committee President. From New York he returned to Spain founding Convenco in 1973, a pioneering company in the field of incentive travel and meeting, congresses, conventions and event planning.

Afterwards, in 1981 he founded GSAR Marketing, a global sales/marketing and communication company specialized in travel and tourism. Internationally, GSAR functions are representation, promotion and trade fairs organization.

Ramon Alvarez was Past-President of the first SITE Spain Chapter (Society of Incentives and Travel Executives). He was also a member of different associations, as IMA (Incentive Marketing Association), MPI (Meeting Professionals International), ASAE and ACTE, and “Past President” of the PATA (Pacific Asia Travel Association) Spain Chapter.

Ramon Alvarez founded the international networking fairs MITM Euromed and MITM Americas in the years 1997 and 2000 respectively. They are both pioneers in the MICE market in Europe, America and the Caribbean. In 2007 he created CULTOURFAIR, specialized in cultural and heritage tourism. They are all quality oriented trade shows, only for professionals and closed to visitors, where individual business sessions and an exclusive social program are combined, to guarantee the direct contact between all the participants. The three fairs now reach 41 successful editions spread in the European and American continents, as well as in the Caribbean.
