Katowice and the angelo Hotel Katowice will turn into the economic and business centre of Central Europe on 14-16 May. 900 speakers, 6000 expected participants and over 100 discussion sessions during the European Economic Congress (EEC) 2012 speak for themselves. The angelo Hotel Katowice will host a large number of debates, business meetings and accompanying banquets.

The angelo Hotel Katowice is one of 11 venues of the European Economic Congress 2012, which will be held on 14-16 May 2012. Within three days some of the most important personalities from European politics, business, science and economics will discuss the shape of the European economy in the coming years. During more than 100 plenary sessions, from which an important part will be hosted at the angelo Katowice, the crucial strategic issues will be discussed, such as: Europe 2020, the EU and Central European countries in face of the economic slowdown, the European Union’s energy policy or Europe’s relations with China. Amongst the speakers are also Jerzy Buzek – President of the European Parliament from 2009-2012 and Polish prime minister from 1997-2001 as well as Günter Verheugen, EU Commissioner for Enterprise and Industry 2004-2010 and EU Commissioner for Enlargement 1999-2004. They will speak on the topic “Energy road map 2050 and Europe’s future energy mix”.

“The scale of this event is growing constantly. We aim to gather the most important European policymakers in Katowice. With their participation we will conduct substantive debates at the highest level.” – emphasizes Wojciech Kuspik, President of the PTWP SA (Polskie Towarzystwo Wspierania Przedsiębiorczości SA), the initiator of the EEC. Tomasz Piorkowski, General Manager at the angelo Hotel Katowice, adds: “Year to year we notice an increasing professionalization and a growing status of the EEC. For business and conference hotels it is a remarkable chance to be amidst leading personalities from economy and business and take part in this prestigious congress.

Panel debates at the angelo Hotel Katowice will be dedicated to the health market and energy policy. But there are also other events taking place at angelo, that promise to be very interesting e.g. “Common development of key technologies of the future” or “Intellectual Property in the new economy”, in which Michal Boni, Polish Minister of Administration and Digitization, is expected to state his opinion. The innovative projects in the KET area (KET group technologies include nanotechnology, photonics and biotechnology) will also be discussed at the angelo Hotel Katowice by experts from the USA, Finland, Denmark and Germany.

The whole area of 1350 m2 of the angelo Hotel Katowice conference centre will be occupied by the debates and most rooms by the participants of the conference: governors, European leaders and other VIPs. The angelo Katowice has also scheduled numerous business meetings, cocktail parties and banquets.

Katowice – meeting the energy
“Katowice is able to provide the best location for this type of event in our country. Its main advantages are the infrastructure and access capabilities.” – states Wojciech Kuspik. It was one of the reasons, why the angelo Hotel Katowice has teamed up with PTWP SA, which is the organizer of the EEC. The hotel, belonging to the Vienna International Hotels & Resorts group, is strongly committed to promoting Silesia in the business travel and MICE industry. In March the hotel organized, in cooperation with the City of Katowice, the event “Discover Silesia” for the second time. Its aim was to show meeting planners the possibilities of business meetings in Katowice.
