M.I.C.E. Matters and Seoul Tourism Organization create a unique, customized incentive trip
One of the highlights of the Nu Skin Southeast Asia Ruby and Leaders Success Trip to Seoul was the half day team building program ‘Seoul Fun Team Discovery’. On April 17th, 166 Nu Skin executives took off in a race around Seoul to the KimChi School, Namsangol Hanok Village, and Cheonggye Stream. The special incentive trip was organized by M.I.C.E. Matters, Singapore, with local support and assistance from the Seoul Tourism Organization (STO).According to Melvyn Nonis, Director Sales of M.I.C.E. Matters Planning, an engaging team building event that would meet the client’s aim was the primary task for MICE Matters, “We wanted the Nu Skin Executive participants to bond and to discover Seoul in a fun and experiential way within a few hours while being challenged in a race to discover Seoul.”
Nonis added, “Some of the activities during the team building have never been done before and it would require the necessary permits to allow for such activities to take place at such public places. The STO, through Ms. Diane Kim, has provided tremendous support in customizing this program for Nu Skin, and helped to make it a truly unique incentive trip.”
Aside from hunting down necessary permits and appropriate venues, Kim guided M.I.C.E. Matters through the Seoul Convention Bureau’s specialized support system for corporate meetings. The Seoul Convention Bureau, a division of STO, was able to help Nu Skin with its financial support system, and also gave Nu Skin Seoul Welcome Kit coupon booklets. They also arranged a specialized greeting for Nu Skin executives on the multi-cube screen upon arrival at Incheon International Airport.
The team building program began with a Korean cultural immersion at the Kimchi School, where teams were taught how to make kimchi and also how to wear traditional Korean clothing called Hanbok. Points were awarded for best-made kimchi and best-dressed team members in a team photo.
At Namsangol Hanok Village, all teams were required to invite some Koreans to join the team in dancing in the open area, to the tune of the K Pop song of “Nobody” made famous by the Wonder Girls. Teams were also required to do paintings of the beautiful surrounding gardens and Pavilions of the Village.
The highlight of the team building took place in the Cheonggye Stream where all teams were taught to make miniature origami boats, write their wishes on the boat and let it sail in a race down the Stream. STO prepared official documents for the city government, and it was the first time that such an event was permitted at Cheonggye Stream by the city of Seoul. The team building ended with the various teams singing their favourite songs in their respective national languages by the stream – much to the amusement of nearby Seoul citizens.
“Seoul is a special destination for Nu Skin Southeast Asia, as it celebrates having doubled its business in a span of three years. It was a reward for all of our Nu Skin Ruby Executives and Leaders who have qualified for this special incentive trip” according to Nu Skin Southeast Asia President, Ms Melisa Tantoco Quijano.
Ms. Quijano also happily noted that the team building in Seoul was a great success, “The team building objectives of experiencing Seoul in fun way while bonding with each other were achieved and on that day we had perfect spring weather with cherry blossom trees in full bloom everywhere we went! What more can we ask! Kamsahapnida!”
