The 25th International Travel Expo Hong Kong and the 6th MICE Travel Expo (ITE & MICE), will be held from 9 – 12 Jun 2011 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center (HKCEC). The first two days are for trade only. ITE & MICE this year draws some 650 exhibitors from around 50 countries and regions from different parts of the World, and occupy, as last year, 5 halls of HKCEC. There are over 30 official pavilions with around 40% of them from outside Asia, but the largest official pavilions, which include China (mainland), Japan, Taiwan, Macau, South Korea, Hong Kong and Thailand, are from Asia.

Among past exhibitors, the official pavilion of Spain will this year expand by 50%, while Taiwan’s “Wellness & Medical Pavilion” by 20%. Including the pavilion on leisure and a new pavilion on “Branded Business Districts” integrating tourism and shopping etc, Taiwan will have a total of 3 official pavilions with overall a significant expansion in scale. There are also new official pavilions from South Africa, Moscow, Bhutan, Seychelles, Tunisia and likely a few others, while new participating countries and regions with only individual exhibitors from Andorra, Maldives, Oman and the Netherlands.

With international tourism expenditure in 2009 at US$16 billion, Hong Kong was Asia’s third largest source market after China (mainland) and Japan. (Source: UNWTO World Tourism Barometer Oct10) In 2010, Hong Kong’s outbound to Japan rose by some 20% to half a million with around 70% being FIT travelers. In general, Hong Kong’s outbound is dominated by FIT travelers and Hong Kong passport holders can visit over 140 countries and regions in the world, including EU and Japan, visa free.

ITE & MICE draw some 11000 trade and corporate visitors with 26% from outside Hong Kong, and 70000 public visitors with over 80% prefer traveling in FIT.
