On sunday 268 Air Berlin passengers boarded an Airbus A330-200 for the first non-stop flight from Berlin to Phuket. “This is a giant leap forward for Air Berlin: we are offering our customers more direct flights and more destinations in Thailand and our Thai passengers have the option of a second direct flight to our attractive capital city”, said Matthias von Randow, Air Berlin’s Director Global Traffic Rights & Political Affairs on the occasion of this inaugural flight in Berlin.

Latest figures released by the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) show that the numbers of international visitors to the Asia Pacific region* improved by a marginal 0.5 percent during the month of August 2009 compared to August 2008. However, figures recorded for the first eight months of 2009 in the same region show that international visitor arrivals are down, year-on-year, by some five percent.

Stephan Interthal, General Manager of the renowned Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin for the past three years, will be taking up a new challenge in his appointment to General Manager of Kempinski Hotel Beijing Lufthansa Center, while Gianni van Daalen will return to Berlin from his position as General Manager ad interim in Moscow. Both appointments are to come into effect at the end of 2009.
