On the 8th March, 2016 the British Embassy, in conjunction with the Chatrium Hotel Royal Lake Yangon, has host an important event to celebrate International Women’s Day. The event was titled ‘Myanmar: Women in the lead’ and will consider the role that women must play in Burma’s future. The event focus on the two themes of entrepreneurship and leadership. Throughout the day there was keynote speeches and panel discussions with some of Burma’s most impressive and inspiring women. The event was open to all and bring together men and women from a wide variety of backgrounds to share experiences and make new connections.

At ITB Berlin :Europe has continuously been eyed as a significant market to the Thai tourism industry despite the economic impact. This is underlined by the Tourism Authority of Thailand’s (TAT) strategic plan to open a new office in Prague, the Czech Republic. The TAT Prague Office is scheduled to open in August, this year, and will join the TAT’s current network of 35 offices in Thailand and 27 offices overseas.

The 6th Silk Road Ministers Meeting held at ITB Berlin on 9 March 2016 focused on the role of public and private sector partnerships (PPPs) in the development of tourism along the Silk Road. Participants discussed how PPPs can advance the issues of infrastructure, product development and marketing.
Addressing the meeting, UNWTO Secretary-General said “governments must lead and direct tourism policies, but the engine behind tourism development is the private sector, and thus one cannot work without the other”.
