London’s project pipeline is looking healthy in the coming years, with over 75 properties to open between this year and 2021. We take a look at what is happening in London’s hotel development scene.
London’s booming hotel market
Although immigration to the UK may be slowing after the Brexit vote, it seems that tourism and travel to the British capital is still keeping hoteliers and developers more than busy.
With 77 hotels planning to open their doors to guests in the coming years, its safe to say that London will always be a draw for travelers, whether for business or pleasure. 77 hotels will bring a total of 14,764 guest rooms to the capital between 2018 and 2021, with the majority of these hotels opening in 2019. 14 properties will welcome guests this year, while 28 will open their doors in 2019. 2020 will close out the decade with 19 new hotels in London, and 2021 will herald in 16 new projects at the start of the next.

Categories and stages
The spread of these properties will be across new build and refurbishment. All of the 77 hotels will be in the upper tiers of the hotel industry, with 56% of the projects being classed as first class, while the remaining 44% will be designated as luxury. The lion’s share of the projects are currently under construction, putting them on track to open in the next two or so years. Those that are in the planning stages amount to about 39% of the total number of projects, while ten percent are in the pre-opening stages, and nine percent are in the pre-planning stages.
