Originally constructed by the globally recognised Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, Gran Meliá Nacional Rio features gardens designed by landscape genius Burle Marx. It is the latest addition to Rio de Janeiros luxury hotel scene. Recognised as a Heritage Site, the building is now an urban resort on São Conrado Beach offering guests unique and unforgettable experiences.Originally built in 1972, the renowned Hotel Nacional was closed for decades. Following extensive renovation works, the property will be restored to its former glory with the launch of Gran Meliá Nacional Rio. Designed by late Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, in its heyday Hotel Nacional was renowned as a celebrity hot-spot, with A-list guests staying at the hotel, including Liza Minnelli, BB King, and James Brown. It even hosted the spectacular Rio Film Festival.
Gran Meliá Nacional Rio has been fully renovated but maintains the hotel’s original features. It is located on the oceanfront and close to Dois Irmãos, Pedra da Gávea and Pedra Bonita. Gran Meliá Nacional Rio is already a member of the prestigious “Leading Hotels of the World ” club.
Débora Aguiar has designed the communal areas, including the reception, lobby, lounge, bar, restaurants and swimming pool, as well as the VIP floors and the roof top. Through a series of circular designs, the hotel encourages guests to direct their sights to the beautiful outdoors and luscious landscaped gardens. In the lobby area panels, screens and counters have been created in waves and curves in homage to the ocean and the feminine form that Oscar Niemeyer admired so
much.
The hotel boasts 413 rooms and suites, exquisitely decorated and with breathtaking views of the ocean and the Dois Irmãos, Pedra da Gávea and Pedra Bonita hills. It offers two restaurants, three exclusive bars, a large conference room (to be opened in 2018) and large leisure space s. The rooftop terrace features 360 degree views of the city, making it the best spot to watch the sunset in Rio de Janeiro.
The Gran Meliá Nacional Rio is currently in a soft launch opening phase, until its official launch date, which is scheduled for March 2017.

Gran Meliá Nacional Rio is ideal both for business and leisure travellers with easy access to the citys airports and a short walk from São Conrado subway station. Declared a Heritage Site of the city of Rio de Janeiro in 1998, Gran Meliá Nacional Rios building was designed by the most important name in Brazilian architecture: Oscar Niemeyer. Originally opened in 1972, it is now a five-star hotel that preserves Niemeyers original architectural features, such as the large lobby, stairs and curvy ramps.
The renovation followed contemporary and cutting-edge trends, with a particular focus on art. The imposing concrete panel by artist Carybé, which is
exhibited in lobby, has been completely restored. At 45 metres in length (1477.6) and three metres high (9’ 10), it is made up of 270 individual pieces. The
reception also boasts a Pedro Corrêa de Araújo chandelier measuring 12 metres by 1.5 metres, which was the inspiration for the interior design.

GRAN MELIÁ REDLEVEL
The RedLevel is a boutique hotel, within a hotel, for guests who are looking to further elevate the luxuriousness of their stay. It provides access to exclusive spaces allowing guests to enjoy a privileged sense of privacy and tranquillity, as well as a more personalised service. The RedLevel Lounge has a private reception area, lounge-library with TV and music, private breakfast area and an open bar with premium drinks.

RESTAURANTS AND BARS
With a unique selection of bars and restaurants, Gran Meliá Nacional Rio offers guests contemporary gastronomy coupled with impeccable service. The hotels restaurants boast a variety of international and regional dishes catering to the most discerning of foodies.
SEREIA RESTAURANT: Located near the pool, the Sereia restaurant specialises in Mediterranean cuisine with a Spanish touch. The restaurant is named after the stunning sculpture of a mermaid, created by Alfredo Ceschiatti, which stands at the front of the hotel looking out onto the ocean.
BARDOT POOL BAR: The luxurious pool bar, Bardot, is open from sunrise to sunset with seafront views. Guests can enjoy sophisticated tapas made with the finest ingredients and drink classic cocktails. Its elegant menu is influenced by Mediterranean flavours.
AMARO is located in the lobby, in the heart of the hotel, and is a great place to enjoy a coffee or a selection of exclusive tapas and premium drinks.

ROOFTOP BAR
The terrace at Gran Meliá National Rio is home to the exclusive Roof Top Bar, which boasts 360-degree views across the city and São Conrado Bay. It
is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset whilst sipping on one of the delicious cocktails.

THE SIGNATURE RESTAURANT
Located on the 32nd floor, the signature restaurant will be the hotel’s main restaurant that will serve avant-garde cuisine and offer stunning views of Rio de Janeiro.
The head chef will be the highly aclaimed Felipe Bronze, one of the top chefs in Brazil known for his contemporary gastronomy. The restaurant is scheduled to open in April 2017.
