Sri Lanka joins Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo 2016 as Country Partner
The Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo series is part of the “One belt, one road” initiated by Chinese President Xi Jinping. Jointly-organised by Shaanxi Provincial Tourism Administration, Conference & Exhibitions Management Services Pte Ltd and CEMS (Beijing) Conference & Exhibition Co., Ltd, Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo (XSRITE) 2016 will be held at Xi’an Qujiang International Conference & Exhibition Centre from 26 – 28 August 2016.
After three successful editions, the XSRITE 2016 is set to attract 500 exhibitors from 30 countries/regions and 24 provinces and autonomous regions with a gross area of 30,000 square metres. The organisers also expect 5000 local and international trade visitors, 400 local and international hosted buyers, as well as 50,000 public visitors at the three-day exhibition this year.

Sri Lanka, confirmed as the Country Partner this year will join other participating countries such as Cambodia, Dominica Republic, Iran, Japan, Latin America, Russia and the United Arab Emirates and the United States of America, at XSRITE 2016.
One of the highlights at XSRITE will be the Destinations Presentation Sessions and the cultural performances brought by various countries, showcasing their destinations and unique cultural performances. For visitors to immerse in their culture, Sri Lanka will be bringing their destinations and performances on the Festival Day, which will be held on 27 August 2016 – the second day of XSRITE 2016.

Formerly known as Chang’an, Xi’an was an ancient capital to 14 dynasties, including the most influential dynasties Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang Dynasties. It is also the starting point of the historical Silk Road. The historical heritage and revival of the Silk Road through the One Belt, One Road initiatives provide Xi’an with unmeasurable potential in tourism.

In 2015, 16,000 flights took off at the runway of Xi’an Xianyang International Airport, 41.3 percent higher than 2014. Number of outbound tourists from Xi’an was 1,667,000, a 53.3 percent year-on-year increase.
The outbound tourism industry of Xi’an is expected to grow with 9 new international routes planned, with direct flights linking Xi’an to 70 cities by 2020. In addition, 27,375 flights are expected to take off from Xi’an Xianyang International Airport, bring 50,000,000 passengers with them.

The short-term aviation plans and targets in place, Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo 2016 seeks the active participation of all in the tourism industry, as exhibitors and trade visitors, to support the Silk Road tourism market and growth and leverage on the market potential.
