Walled Garden as new supplementary service for tourists and locals
Since 15th September free WLAN is available at four locations in Stuttgart’s city centre. And there’s also a special supplementary service: both the city’s inhabitants and tourists from home and abroad can access tailor-made information all about Stuttgart via a special mobile portal, known as the “walled garden”.
Still more quality for your stay: Since 15th September, visitors to Stuttgart can have free internet access at four central and highly-frequented locations in the heart of the city. The free Wi-Fi network with the name “Unitymedia Wifi” is available on Palace Square (Schlossplatz), Schiller Square (Schillerplatz) the Marketplace (Marktplatz) and at the “i-Punkt” tourist information centre – secure and convenient, with a high data bandwidth and no time limit. Simply select the network “Unitymedia Wifi”, open the internet browser with any URL, request login data by SMS, register and start surfing, free of charge.
As well as upgrading the infrastructure, this new service of the Stuttgart-Marketing GmbH and the cable network operator Unitymedia also provides an additional
tourist service – for Stuttgart’s inhabitants, and especially for visitors from abroad with no mobile phone flat rate. The right information at the right time and the right place: a special feature of Stuttgart’s WLAN concept is the so-called “walled garden”, an information portal provided for users by the Stuttgart-Marketing GmbH on the WLAN registration page. It supplies tips and information on tourism highlights, events, eating out, opening times, travel timetables and lots more besides. No WLAN registration is required in order to access the information in the “walled garden”.“Obviously we selected the four locations offering free WLAN from a tourism point of view. The walled garden represents a new form of addressing specific target groups. It enables us to draw attention to tourism offers and provide new impulses with up-to-the-minute, locally pinpointed information. This way we establish a direct link to Stuttgart’s inhabitants and guests from all over the world and offer them added value. We pick up the users of the free WLAN wherever they happen to be, and when they are open to suggestions for additional leisure activities,” concludes Armin Dellnitz, Managing Director of the Stuttgart-Marketing GmbH.
