BOPSS sees Belfast Waterfront as one of the best conference centres in the UK
The first Annual Scientific Meeting of the British Oculoplastic Surgery Society held in Belfast Waterfront and on the island of Ireland, was hailed as a complete success by both organisers and delegates alike. Northern Ireland`s only purpose built conference centre welcomed nearly 300 delegates to a 3-day event which examined the principles of orbital surgery, thyroid management, and vascular lesions of the orbit as well as new advances in these fields.
Steve White, Consultant Eye Surgeon at the Royal Victoria Hospital, and the lead organiser of a team of four, praised the Belfast Waterfront team for their fantastic support and invaluable expertise, stating: `The conference was undoubtedly a great success and this is in no small part thanks to the entire wonderful team at the Waterfront. The whole process was seamless, hassle free and the enormous support I received from the team made my first experience of organising such an event a truly enjoyable one.`

`Belfast Waterfront is one of the best conferences centres in the UK. It is a top notch facility, purposely built to host conferences and therefore equipped with quality support services and facilities that are essential to creating a fantastic experience for delegates.`
Excellent food, tiered comfortable seating in a spectacular auditorium, and a warm, friendly front of house team, were just some of the features commended in the positive feedback from delegates. Even the little touches didn’t go unnoticed and made a real difference to the event. Warm smiles, opening doors and food beautifully presented all contributed to creating a lovely experience.
The conference underpinned another striking feature of this majestic venue namely its flexible spaces which can be tailored to suit any size of event. The venue boasts many large awe inspiring spaces including an auditorium that delivers a huge wow factor. Designed to accommodate events for up to 2,000+ delegates, event organisers were delighted at how such a large conference centre also lends itself perfectly to smaller, intimate events.
Northern Ireland is very well represented in field of ophthalmology, with an Institute of Ophthalmology in Belfast, and units in the Royal Victoria Hospital, Belfast Mater Hospital, and Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Londonderry. It made sense for Northern Ireland, a leading player in this specialism to host a conference which would showcase the latest advancements as well as promote knowledge sharing.
Indeed the successful delivery of this prestigious conference only reaffirms the fact that Belfast is a perfectly viable place for a conference, no matter what size. With a world class conference centre boasting 7,000m2 of flexible event space coming in 2016, that`s just 5 mins away from an airport and 2 mins from a train station, its popularity as a business tourism destination is set to grow.
Steve White concludes: `The overwhelming positive feedback I have received from delegates along with my own personal experience of the venue, have proved that we absolutely made the right choice. I would unreservedly recommend Belfast Waterfront to colleagues working in oculoplastics and different specialisms.`
