Innovative IT enables the “Smart Hotel”: Intelligent housing technology controls elevators and air conditioners, allows hot-cold showers and optimises time-consuming service visits. The vision of 20 years ago has now become reality. The “Future Hotel” technologies are developed and – partially – already in use. The booking process is fully automated: A Web-Bot searches 24/7 for adequate hotel deals entirely on personal preferences. A simple click – and the hotel is booked. My arrival in the city is preregistered – the smartphone is recognized at the airport and the hotel will be informed about the imminent arrival. Via phone or tablet the check-in takes place before entering the hotel – the annoying question for the room key is omitted, a concierge greets me by name, and there is enough time for a personal chat.

A service robot takes the luggage to the rooms – guaranteed within just seven minutes. The hotel concierge app – a comprehensive application that can work with all the hotel IT systems – advises me on the default settings of the air conditioner. In advance the room will be ventilated – it welcomes me with fresh air.

The elevator detects the identification of my smartphone and directs me to the desired floor. Via near field technology of the smartphone, it can immediately open the door – automatically swinging open as you approach; trouble with handling of baggage and keycard no longer exists.

In the evening the blanket will turned down automatically – the hotel recognition system has detected my leaving from the hotel bar.

According to my desire setting, the morning shower adjusts to a soothing hot-cold contrast shower; the nozzle of the shower head is IP controlled and therefore individually variable. By turning off the water an automatic message is sent to the Nespresso machine: the first espresso macchiato is ready as soon as I leave the bathroom.

The automatic face recognition in the elevator and in the hotel corridors reports my imminent arrival in the breakfast restaurant. My favorite food is immediately prepared: Omelet with vegetables and mushrooms freshly squeezed orange juice and a coffee with milk. Also my favorite newspapers are ready at my seat.

Changes in my F&B wishes are noticed by the staff in my digital guest file – the hotel concierge app retrieves these changed data and supplies them for next hotel stays.
