Therefore, the leading upscale group Accor in Indonesia will mainly open new hotels in the far lesser known cities of the country. According to the company 29 new guest properties will open until 2015. Thus, Accor is likely to operate about 100 hotels in the archipelago by December 2015. By 2018, the number is expected to rise up to 144. Best Western meanwhile intends to open more than 30 new hotels with over 6,000 rooms by 2015.

But the Indonesian competition entails. The traditional Lippo Group has currently 50 projects in the pipeline in the mid class and upper upscale segment. The company International Archipelago is targeting additional 10,000 rooms by 2015. Competitors Santika, Tauzia and Dafam plan to open together about 140 new hotels in the same period.

Foreign tourists often stay in four- or five-star hotels. They also live there noticeably longer than residents, who often use only a long weekend for a short stay. According to the statistic office, international visitors stayed 7,7 days in average in 2012 and 2013. Between 2002 and 2007 they stayed more than 9 days. Tourists are apparently more fast-moving, but at the same time they also become more demanding. Therefore, although foreigners remain shorter in Indonesia, they are found more than before.
