In Abu Dhabi, the hotel sector is much smaller and less dynamic than in Dubai. The occupancy rate dropped in 2012 due to an increase of the room offer to 61 percent (2011: 65%), an improvement of 68 percent was reported in 2013. The number of tourists increased in Abu Dhabi by 15 percent to 3.0 million in 2013.
Thanks to hotel openings the number of hotel rooms in Abu Dhabi (without Al Ain and Al Gharbia) increased by 1,700 to 15,700 in 2012, for 2013 a growth of more than 18,150 is reported.

In Dubai, the number of hotels will be doubled to about 800 properties with 100,000 rooms until the World Expo 2020. Currently, 85 new hotel projects with 27,500 rooms are under construction or in development. More than 10,000 hotel rooms need to be projected by government plans.
