China Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo to relive the glory days of the Great Silk Road. The glory of the ancient Great Silk Road originating from China will be relived in a new international tourism exhibition to be staged in the historic city of Xi’an, capital of ancient Chinese empires, in September 2014.
The China Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo (CSRITE) 2014 will be conducting its inaugural presentation at the Xi’an Qujiang International Conference & Exhibition Centre from 19 to 21 September 2014. The event will span over 20,000 square metres and will attract some 500 exhibitors from 30 countries, as well as 30,000 trade and public visitors.
Organised by Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) of Singapore, the CSRITE 2014 is being strongly supported by the Shaanxi Provincial Tourism Administration, the Tourism Administration of Xi’an and the Shaanxi Tourism Association.
Xi’an, being one of the four great ancient capitals of China, is rich in its heritage and home to countless historical sites and cultural relics such as the Terracotta Warriors. Coupled with the rapid urbanisation of the North West region of China, Xi’an has brought forth new heights in the tourism market thus far, making it one of the most lucrative, competitive as well as the fastest-growing industries in the region.
In an industry report by People’s Daily in January 2014, the year 2013 saw Chinese outbound tourist numbers reaching 97.3 million, up by 14 million more travellers over the previous year. The number is expected to break the 100 million mark in 2014.
Other increases include the number of outbound tourists, hitting 4.725 million during the Spring Festival holidays from 31 January to 6 February 2014, a rise of 18.1% compared to 2013, as stated by the Economic Daily citing Government statistics. By 2020, China is widely predicted to be both the largest tourist destination and the largest source of tourists to other countries.

The momentum of China’s tourism market in recent years bodes well for Xi’an’s tourism sector. “CSRITE, as a new addition to our current cluster of tourism exhibitions, will cater to the growing needs of tourism markets in Northwest China,” said Mr Edward Liu, Group Managing Director of Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) Pte Ltd Singapore, the exhibition organiser .
“I believe that Xi’an, as the origin of the historical Silk Road, is a strategic location to hold the China Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo and will offer an excellent opportunity for the growth of the region’s tourism sectors, both locally and internationally.”
The Great Silk Road was the economic and cultural bridge that connected the eastern and western regions of the world. With roots that run deep in the Silk Road, the province of Shaanxi will play a new strategic role in contributing to the region’s rapidly developing tourism sector, especially with the addition of China Xi’an Silk Road International Tourism Expo (CSRITE) 2014.
Against this backdrop, CSRITE 2014 will provide the ideal B2B networking platform for domestic and international exhibitors to explore lucrative business prospects and opportunities across an extensive interconnected network of trade and tourism routes across the Asian continent connecting East, South, and Western Asia with the Mediterranean world, as well as North and Northeast Africa and Europe – the original countries of the Great Silk Road.
Visitors will be able to gain valuable insights into the various destinations through the extensive exhibitor showcase and the various on-site activities such as conferences and seminars, destinations’ presentation sessions and performances.
Other tourism exhibitions organised by CEMS include the 11th Beijing International Tourism Expo (BITE) in June, the 5th China Guilin International Tourism Expo (CGITE) in late August, the 3rd Chengdu International Travel Fair (CITF) in November and the inaugural Hangzhou International Travel Fair in October 2014.
