AZIMUT Hotels has set a date for completing the renovation of the tallest building in the Russian Arctic—the 19-storey Hotel Arctica and business centre. According to current plans it will be open for business in the second quarter of 2014. The renovation has transformed the building into the multi-functional Arctica hotel and business complex which includes a hotel (the AZIMUT Hotel Murmansk), a business centre, restaurants and apartments.
The building is the tallest in the polar region and is located on the Five Corners square, scene of the city’s major public events.
The general contractor for the project is RD Construction (part of the RD Group). The basic construction work is nearing completion, and the systems check is about to start. The project represents an investment of 1,850,000,000 rubles and has a total area of 36,000 square metres.
At present RD Construction is building the two-level underground parking facility with an area of 5,000 square metres. This parking area will be a great convenience both for hotel guests and city residents.
As part of the reconstruction of the complex there will be an adaptable conference hall (the only one of its kind in the city) that will accommodate 500 persons, a banquet hall, a cafe, two restaurants and a lounge bar, as well as the two-level parking facility. On the 17th floor there will be luxury apartments with an impressive view of the city centre and Kola Bay. Upon completion of the hotel there will be 186 rooms for guests. The renovation employs the SMART concept developed for AZIMUT Hotels by Bruzkus Batek Architects.
