Today we received a mail from a hotelier directly from Egypt:
—actually the situation here in sharm is not good at all, we never effected like this time, Now we are running 18% occupancy , end of month o % but it vary from hotel to another as all Italian charters were cancelled and the same for most of the Russian but for the British they still working.
In general the lost was so huge in Sharm because in the last two years sharm became a Russian territory! they are talking here now that the owners of the most famous Russian tour operators are Turkish and they intended to cancel all the charter to Egypt due to political vision as the didn’t do the same in January 2011 !
For Marsa Matrouh the situation was worst as they depend in August on the Italian and as the unrest started on 14th of august while they had fully booked hotels celebrating “Ferragost” they second day they had empty hotels!
We made different scenarios, the most likely one is August and September were closed as there is no optimistic sign. hoping the the 4th Q will receive business again.
