The São Paulo Convention & Visitors Bureau was in Paris this week to participate in the defense application of São Paulo, which is indicated as one of the headquarters of the Universal Exhibition, Expo 2020. The event is considered the largest in the world, and may have a duration of approximately six months in the chosen city. “What SPCVB and his associates are committed to the achievement of this important event in Sao Paulo,” said Toni Sando, CEO of SPCVB.
To defend the candidature of the city of São Paulo, the capital Paris received the Brazilian delegation, formed by Vice President Michel Temer (PMDB), by Governor Geraldo Alckmin (PSDB), by Mayor Fernando Haddad (PT), the minister of tourism Gaston Vieira and representatives and entrepreneurs from renowned Brazilian tourism sector. During the defense of the application, the Portuguese actress and director Maria de Medeiros showed videos about the city of São Paulo with the theme: “Strength of Diversity, Harmony for Growth”. The proposal includes the construction of an exhibition center in Pirituba, in the north of the state capital. The city of São Paulo has the following competitors: Dubai (UAE), Izmir (Turkey) and the Russian city Ekaterinburg. The result of the winning city will be announced by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE), in November 2013.
