Vienna International Hotels & Resorts in Poland have summed up 2012 as a successful year. The new projects undertaken during last year led to a noteworthy increase in the number of rooms sold and gained the VI hotels in Poland further industry awards. Vienna International Hotels & Resorts manages five hotels in Poland: andel’s Hotel Cracow, andel’s Hotel Łódź, angelo Hotel Katowice, Amber Baltic Międzyzdroje (all 4-star) and Chopin Hotel Cracow Old Town (3-star).

From year to year the hotels increase in popularity. In 2012 nearly 137 000 visitors stayed in the VI hotels for nearly 331 000 nights, which accounted for nearly 9% of increase in comparison to 2011. Most of the guests travelled on business or participated in conferences and events. The VI hotels in Poland organized 1184 events of various types in 2012. Out of which the largest was the European Economic Congress in the angelo Hotel Katowice and the establishment of the British media centre in the andel’s Hotel Cracow, which cooperated with the British Football Association during the European championships in football. The largest nationality group among the VI hotel guests in Poland is still Polish, it makes up for nearly 50%. Behind the Polish are the Germans, British and Italians. The largest increase in the number of arrivals was observed among visitors from Japan and the Netherlands.

Repeatedly awarded
2012 was also successful for the VI hotels in Poland in terms of awards, notably from internet booking portals. The andel’s hotels in Cracow and Łódź were assessed by TripAdvisor users as two of the best hotel properties in Poland, the former was additionally considered to be Poland’s most fashionable hotel. The andel’s Hotel Łódź became Design Hotel of the Year (HRS ranking in collaboration with Newsweek and Forbes) and the andel’s Hotel Cracow was awarded with Expedia’s Insiders’ Select 2012. The angelo Hotel Katowice established its status as the most preferred business hotel in Poland yet again (hotel.info) and the Chopin Hotel Cracow Old Town – as the second best economy hotel in Cracow (Best Hotel Award 2012, rezerwuje.pl). The VI hotels in Poland received TripAdvisor Certificates of Excellence as well.

Event active
The VI Hotels in Poland are not only the venue for events organized by commercial partners, but are also partner of many cultural and sporting events as well as event promoter. The angelo Hotel Katowice and the andel’s Hotel Łódź organized two big events to promote their destinations. “Discover Silesia” and “Łódź creates events” were part of a project marketing destination, with the intention of showing the event potential of Polish cities to meeting planners. The andel’s Hotel Cracow celebrated its 5th anniversary last year together with its most important customers at the gala “Fashion, Light & Design”. Fashion was also present in the andel’s Cracow hotel during the “Platinum Fashion Night” and in the andel’s Hotel Łódź during the biggest fashion event in Poland “FashionPhilosophy Fashion Week Poland”. Sportsmen are frequent guests at the angelo Hotel Katowice – in 2012 e.g. during the Tour de Pologne and World Volleyball League.

Culture and art in a hotel
The VI Hotels in Poland are also strongly associated with the world of art and culture. Many well-known Polish and international artists chose VI properties during last year, i.e. Sting, Martin Scorsese, Snoop Dog, Sigur Ros, Kayah (a Polish singer), Maciej Zień (a Polish designer) or Marian Opania (a Polish actor). As each year, Amber Baltic Międzyzdroje was in the centre of events during the holiday Festival of Stars and during that time hosted a number of Polish actors. The VI design hotels in Poland also hosted the exhibition “Viva! Photo Awards”, organized together with one of Poland’s biggest lifestyle magazines. The andel’s Hotel Łódź presented the work of a contemporary artist from Łódź – Leszek Bartkiewicz.

Changes in 2012 and plans for 2013
The year 2012 was a year of significant changes in the VI hotels Poland. Two hotels expanded their spa and fitness offer. The andel’s Hotel Łódź introduced the exclusive skySPAce CLUB and the Amber Baltic Międzyzdroje added a lot of new treatments. The angelo Hotel Katowice proposed special packages including accommodation in its conference offer. The Chopin Hotel Cracow Old Town refurbished all rooms, renovated its facade and received a new General Manager. The andel’s Hotel Cracow and the Amber Baltic Międzyzdroje have new chefs who introduced completely new menus.

Katarzyna Niezgoda, the director of the Vienna International Sales Office in Poland, has plans for 2013: “Our goal for 2013 is to maintain our market position and improve our services. Certainly, we will continue our efforts to promote destinations. Marketing activities will focus on the Internet communications, with particular emphasis on social media. The biggest event of our hotels will be the 20th anniversary of the Chopin Hotel Cracow Old Town.”
