“Guten Appetit, Frau Kanzlerin – Enjoy your meal, Mr. President – Bon appétit, votre Altesse Royale”
Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin to host the chefs to the heads of state
They cook for the most powerful and influential people in the world and their guests, they know the favorite dishes of the crowned heads of state and they are the most important ambassadors of their countries’ cuisine – the chefs to the heads of state and government. They have joined forces to form an elite circle open only to those who comply with the strict terms and conditions of admission: the “Club des Chefs des Chefs”.

Gilles Bragard, owner of Bragard – one of the most successful French companies in the workwear clothing industry – and also known as “le Couturier des Chefs”, established the C.C.C. in 1977 in Paul Bocuse’s famous restaurant in Collonges au Mont d’Or. Even in those days, a few chefs to heads of government attended the gatherings and today, the “Club des Chefs des Chefs” with around 40 members, is regarded as the most exclusive gastronomy club in the world. At each annual meeting, Gilles Bragard is given the opportunity to present an honorary chef’s jacket to the host country’s head of state.
This year, the Club des Chefs des Chefs is celebrating its 35th anniversary and has therefore arranged two European meetings. Members will be gathering in Berlin from July 18 to 21 and in Paris from July 22 to 25. Eighteen members of the C.C.C are participating in the Berlin meeting and will convene in Hotel Adlon Kempinski Berlin. Attendees will include the chefs to the Presidents of the USA, France and Russia and the chefs to the Queen of England, the King of Sweden and the Prince of Monaco. They have all been invited by Ulrich Kerz, the chef of the Federal Chancellery of Germany. The reason for these annual get-togethers is clear – the Chefs des Chefs simply want to have a good time and they want to be flattered just as much as the heads of state for whom they work. That’s why they are not pulling the strings behind the scenes as they usually do but will be present on the podium at the press conference at Hotel Adlon on July 19, and will then be enjoying lunch in the Federal Chancellery with Angela Merkel on July 20, followed by an exclusive gala dinner at Hotel Adlon that evening.
