Thai Airways fired the chairman and present a new chairman just in one day reported The bangkok Post in their Breaking News today:
There was no political interference in the removal of Piyasvasti Amranand from the post of Thai Airways’ president and chief executive officer, Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra said on Tuesday.
Ms Yingluck commented after Mr Piyavasti yesterday said he thought his dismissal was politically influenced.
It was the decision of the THAI board, Ms Yingluck said. Members of the board, who were appointed during the last government, voted 12 to one in favour of dismissing him.
“There is no political interference in this issue and the government has no one in mind for the position,” the premier said. “We should let the THAI board nominate the candidate.”
In response to Mr Piyavasti’s comment that the country’s national flag carrier would again lose profits, she said the THAI board will look into it and the opposition can raise the issue to attack the government.
Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Kittiratt Na-Ranong said he believed that the board’s decision was for the airline’s benefit.
Most of the board members were appointed by the previous administration, Mr Kittiratt said.
Democrat Party deputy leader Korn Chatikavanij said in his Facebook page that there were no places for good people in the current government.
“In one week the government dismissed two people who are renowned for their skill and honesty. They are MR Chatumongol Sonakul, who was removed from the chair of the Bank of Thailand’s board, and Mr Piyasvasti,” Mr Korn said. “This paves the way for people who are close to the government.”
“Besides the huge budget of THAI, what are the other reasons [for the government] to have its own candidate for this position? It seems that good people will find it harder to stand during this time,” the former finance minister said.
Mr Piyasvasti on Monday was axed as THAI president and CEO in a move he described as politically motivated and said he would take legal action if he found the dismissal tarnished his reputation.
THAI chairman Ampon Kittiampon told a press conference that although Mr Piyasvasti passed his performance evaluation, he had problems communicating with the board.
THAI labour union president Jamsri Sukchoterat said the dismissal was irrational and affected the credibility of THAI as a listed company as well as its competitiveness.
The THAI board appointed Chokchai Panyayong, executive vice president for strategies and business development, as acting president, taking over from Mr Piyasvasti.
