New SCB Social Media Promotion Targets Top European Meetings Trade Show
The Seoul Convention Bureau will be inviting EIBTM attendees to take their Korean experience online during this year’s Europe Incentive Business Travel & Meetings (EIBTM) trade show next week. Visitors will be invited to photograph themselves at the Seoul booth and upload their images to the official SCB Facebook page for the opportunity to win a prize. Dubbed the ‘Seoul Photo Contest’, the interactive event is Seoul’s fourth marketing promotion to use social media platforms and the first to target a specific industry event.
The contest is open to any EIBTM attendee with a camera, but specifically targets savvy smartphone users. QR codes for the official promotion page are displayed prominently throughout the SCB’s 36m² booth – making promotion participation an easy, 30-second process. Alternately, participants can reach it at the event page of www.facebook.com/miceseoul via a computer terminal.
With the eyes of many attendees focused on the yearly EIBTM Technology Watch awards – designed to recognize new technological developments driving tomorrow’s meetings industry – the annual Barcelona expo was deemed the obvious candidate for trying out the SCB’s most targeted social media promotion yet.
“We’ve had a lot of success with our first three social media promotions,” commented Martin Kim, Deputy Chief at the Seoul Convention Bureau. “So it seemed obvious to start taking them with us to industry events where we can directly attract our target market – event planners, buyers, industry media, and so on. EIBTM has the Technology Watch event, so we’re hoping people here will be especially interested in what we’re doing.”
Although the promotion is not being formally submitted to Technology Watch, it forms part of the SCB’s efforts to pave new channels of communication through technology and social media.
The SCB’s most recent social media campaign, Steve’s Complete Convention Plan, concludes this week. Running until November 26, the campaign simulates a typical 4-day business itinerary in Seoul for an international business tourist. Participants who help Steve organize his itinerary go into the draw to win free roundtrip airfare to Seoul and more in 2012. The promotion can be found on the SCB’s official Facebook page at www.facebook.com/miceseoul..
