In for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology, or WFUMB, announced that all WFUMB members have agreed that the 2017 WFUBM conference will be hosted by the Taiwan Society of Ultrasound in Medicine. This is the first time WFUMB has decided to have the annual conference hosted in Taiwan, and this also shows the medical advancement in Taiwan and the conference hosting ability have been recognized and approved by the international community.
The tender preparation and strategic planning effort for this opportunity was largely supported and sponsored by government departments including the Office of the President, Executive Yuan, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Bureau of Foreign Trade, MOEA and Taiwan MICE Advancement Program. About 4,000 domestic as well as international scholars will come to Taiwan for the conference.
International Friends and Government Support Made It Possible for Taiwan to Win the Hosting Privilege

Founded in 1973, the WFUMB now has over 50,000 members, consisting professionals from different disciplines such as medical doctors, scientists, engineers and ultrasound technicians and from 85 countries. As one of the membership organizations, the Taiwan Society of Ultrasound in Medicine submitted an application to host the 2017 conference in Taiwan and received letters of support from other societies of ultrasound in medicines, including EFUMB, AFSUMB and ASUM. In his speech, Dr. Hiroki Watanabe, the former chairman of WFUMB, appealed to the members for support to host the annual conference in Taiwan. Finally, all members agreed, without objection, to select Taiwan as the hosting country for the 16th WFUMB conference in 2017.

Rich Exhibition Resources Boosted Qualification of Tender Proposal
WFUMB has over 30 years of history, and 2017 will be the first year that Taiwan will host such a great conference. Jheng-wen Jiang from the Taiwan Society of Ultrasound in Medicine pointed out that people in Taiwan are friendly, and the transportation system is conveniently accessible. “We have high academic standards and maintain a close relationship with other international societies. These, along with strong support from the government, were our strengths for winning the privilege to host the conference,” he said.
Jiang further added that the transportation system in Taiwan is complete and convenient. There are the high-speed rail, the MRT, and taxis with very reasonable fares. This makes it very easy for participating scholars to travel between the conference location and hotels and join sightseeing tours. Meanwhile, the overall economy and academic standards in Asia have been growing steadily. Most importantly, the quality of services, hospitality and active support from the government will guarantee a positive impression for all conference participants.
