The 19th edition of SATTE (www.satte.org), India’s leading travel & tourism event, will be held in New Delhi at Pragati Maidan from 10-12 February 2012. SATTE 2012 will be organized by UBM India. UBM India is a part of UBM plc (www.ubm.com), the leading global business media company listed on the London Stock Exchange. Over the years, SATTE has grown both in terms of exhibitors and visitors (including buyers), and is today the biggest networking forum for the travel & tourism industry in South Asia. The Indian travel & tourism market is on the verge of becoming one of the fastest-growing markets in the world. This is especially true of the domestic market within India, a country of over one billion people, which has a growing middle class. This same growing middle class has a huge captive market for travel around the World.
The main destination regions for Indian outbound are Asia and Europe, accounting for 64% and 20% of the total outbound travel respectively. In Asia, South-east Asia has the largest share of the international tourist arrivals from India. The Americas, mainly North America, account for a market share of 9% while Africa and Australia/Oceania together receive 7% of international tourist arrivals from the country. In fact, Indians top in arrivals for regions and countries such as Hong Kong, Dubai, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand and Sri Lanka. The tourism industries from these places are most active in the Indian market to attract a greater share of Indians outbound.
Over 12 million Indians traveled abroad last year. The World Tourism Organization has predicted that by 2020 India will account for 50 million outbound tourists, thus continuing to maintain the growth momentum. India’s domestic movements are estimated at 600 million annually, while domestic aviation movements are pegged at 52 million annually—and growing.
SATTE 2011 event grew by 34.15% in terms of the number of exhibitors, and 17% in terms of the number of visitors, over the previous year’s event. SATTE 2011 hosted buyers from 33 countries and 80 cities of India. The event had a total of 6,403 buyers.
SATTE 2012 (Download brochure) will be spread over 16,500 sqm gross, thus making it India’s biggest travel & tourism event. It will feature exhibitors from 50 countries including India, with an estimated 6,000+ travel agents and tour operators from all over India and abroad. Like last year, SATTE 2012 will also feature its companion event, SATTE Mumbai West, which will be held from 15-16 February 2012 at the Leela Kempinski, Mumbai.
