Jury won over by successful launch in the business travel sector
The marketing magazine “absatzwirtschaft” and the Germany Marketing Association (DMV) have awarded the Brand Award 2011 in the “Best Brand Expansion” category to airberlin. The airline received the award for its successful launch in the business travel sector. The jury was made up of thirteen marketing experts and gave the following citation: “The company’s positioning as a personal airline for everybody wanting to fly for leisure or business scored heavily.” André Rahn, Director Marketing airberlin, received the award yesterday evening in Düsseldorf. “We started a special business promotion to communicate the airberlin brand with business travellers as well as our core leisure travel customers. The aim of this was to expand the perception of airberlin from a low cost supplier in the premium leisure sector to the business travel sector. We are absolutely delighted that we have not only managed to become the first choice for our passengers but now also for the brand award jury,” said Rahn.
airberlin is Germany’s second largest airline and has a workforce of 8,900 employees. In 2010 alone, airberlin received over 10 awards for service and quality. The fleet comprises of 169 aircraft with an average age of five years, making it one of the most modern fleets in Europe. The airline’s state-of-the-art jets are highly fuel efficient, which contributes toward a long-term reduction in pollution emissions from aircraft. As one of the major European airlines, airberlin currently flies to 163 destinations in 39 countries. In 2010, airberlin transported 33.6 million passengers. airberlin has signed up for membership to the global airline alliance oneworld® and is expected to become a full member at the start of 2012. airberlin has offered flights under codeshare agreements with American Airlines and Finnair since November 2010.
