Online voting for the 2011 ‘Face of the Future’ competition is now underway. Entrants’ profiles and photographs are available to view at www.pata60.org, where PATA members can vote once for up to three candidates between now and October 29, 2010. Each year, the ‘Face of the Future’ spotlights an individual who has worked to change or advance travel-and-tourism in the Asia Pacific region. Nominations for the 2011 competition have been received from a variety of countries, including Bhutan, Myanmar, Thailand and Samoa. All represent individuals who, despite their young age, have already made a significant contribution to the Asia Pacific travel-and-tourism industry.
From a hotel owner to a tour operator, an entrepreneur to a tourism education professional, each of the entrants has impressed with not only their personal achievements, but also – in many cases – their understanding of the wider impacts of tourism on the local community.
After voting closes at the end of October, five finalists will be invited to submit a video – up to three minutes in length – further detailing their experiences to date and aspirations for the future. These videos will be judged by PATA Executive Board members, with the winner and runners-up announced by March 1, 2010.
The winner of the Face of the Future 2011 will be honoured at a special awards ceremony at the 60th Anniversary and Conference, April 9-12 in Beijing. The winner will also have a chance to participate in a plenary session alongside luminaries such as senior government officials and industry leaders from across the spectrum of PATA membership.
