Global Hotel Boom. Over 1,515 luxury hotels and 2,150 first-class hotels with an inventory of more than 1 million guest rooms are under construction worldwide. According to leading hotel data source tophotelprojects.com, investments in new upscale hotels total up to EUR 140 billion (nearly USD 200 bn). Building costs for a luxury-classed hotel room amount to an average EUR 183,000. First-class rooms account for 135,000 Euro in the construction budget.

European hotel investments have risen to approximately EUR 30 bn, financing more than 1,072 projects with over 189,000 guest rooms. In North America the on-going investments are even higher, totaling EUR 39.8 bn for only 997 hotels comprising 250,000 guest rooms. All East Asian top hotel projects combined add up to EUR 58.9 bn (1,270 projects with 370,000 rooms).
