More than 15,000 tourism professionals from over 180 countries will be converging in Berlin, Germany in early March in order to promote their countries, acquire tourists and sign contracts for the duration of a week. This makes ITB the most important trade fair of the global tourism industry. Also attending will be 100 ministers representing global politics and 7,600 travel journalists from 90 countries.
For five days, the first three of which are reserved to trade visitors, ITB Berlin will be setting the trends for the tourism industry, one of the largest and fastest growing economic branches and providing well over 100 million jobs.
All tourism products will be arranged according to their respective geographic locations and represented market segments. More than 11,000 companies representing the entire value chain will be showcasing their products.
Being a barometer for the economic situation in the global travel industry, ITB is a media event. As such, the 15,000 potential interviewees will be met by some 7,600 journalists from all over the world.
A small comparison:
In 1999, 7,374 exhibitors from all around the world were showcasing their offers to approximately 115,950 visitors and 6,136 journalists.
By 2009, ITB had grown to 11,098 exhibitors informing 178,971 visitors and 7,600 journalists. The organizers expect these numbers to be surpassed slightly this year.
ITB will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with countless events taking place all over Berlin before and afterwards.
Among this year’s novelties is a grand closing show at the Palais am Funkturm, 3.30 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, where artists from all over the world will bid the ITB farewell before its one-year hiatus until March 2011.
In the meantime, Messe Berlin will be staging an Asian version of ITB, „ITB Asia“, to be held in Singapore from October 20-22, 2010.
Partner Country Turkey
Turkey, which has attended every single ITB since 1968, is the partner country of the 44th edition of ITB. Germany is Turkey’s most important source market with a reported 4.5 million German visitors.
Turkey will be showcasing its diversity and hospitality on an area of 3,079 square meters in Hall 3.2., along with more than 100 sub-exhibitors.
On Saturday, March 13, 2010 Turkey will broaden its program beyond the fair grounds and into sports arena O2 World with a spectacular stage show called “Troy – an Anatolian Legend” by Fire of Anatolia. 120 dancers in more than 2,000 splendid costumes will stage the myth around the ancient city of Troy with the magical power of expressive dance. This performance will be the German premiere.
