Tourism Marketing Company Saxony (TMGS) will be showcasing the Free State of Saxony as “Art Hall Saxony” at ITB Berlin from March 11 to 15. Painting masterpieces from museums in Saxony will set the stage for Saxony as Germany’s cultural travel destination number one with unseen quality and consequence, using an area of 1000 sqm in hall 11.2. In doing so, Saxony is aiming to position itself as the foremost address for art and culture in Germany providing travel offers of excellent quality.
Visitors of the ITB will be guided into the ambiance of an art gallery by huge cloth and paper prints of works by artists such as Rembrand, Raffael, Giorgione/Tizian, Caspar David Friedrich, Oskar Kokoschka, Alexej von Jawlensky, Werner Tübke, Hans Hesse, Neo Rauch, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Gerhard Richter, Ernst Ludwig Kirchner, Wolfgang Mattheuer, Otto Dix, Johannes Molzahn, Johan Christian Clausen Dahl and Eduard Kaiser. All these are paintings that can be viewed in Saxony. They are meant to represent the Saxon landscapes, towns and places of cultural significance. ITB visitors thus have the unique opportunity to marvel at works usually shown in various museums, galleries, churches and other exhibition venues in Saxony.
Brilliant posters reflect themes such as the opening of “Türckische Cammer” in December in Dresden, 300 years State Porcelain Manufacture Meissen, the 200th birthday of Felix Mendelssohn-Bartholdy, 20 years Peaceful Revolution and the opening of the “Amazonien” exhibition at Panometer Leipzig, 200 years Richard Hartmann in Chemnitz and the 200th birthday of Robert Schumann in Zwickau. The restaurant reserved for trade visitors is decorated with a motif by “Brücke” painter Schmidt-Rottluff. All shown works of art can be viewed in a specially produced catalog.
There will further be a sophisticated, art and culture-themed stage performance aiming to acoustically complement the promotion of Saxony as a top cultural travel destination. It features a high-profile cast of artists from the State Operetta of Dresden, the Plauen/Zwickau theater, Anasages Theater Chemnitz and the “Pink Models” from Plauen. The performance of Anasages Theater was created and choreographed specifically for the theme of art in Saxony. Thomas Synofzik, director of Schumann-Haus Zwickau, will perform Schumann with a jazz theme. Further guests of TMGS will be jazz pianist Ray Ghiorgis and the exceptional talent Elin Kolev. The 12-year old violinist is attending ITB as a guest of “Art Hall Saxony” before playing at the IBLA Carnegie Hall Awards in New York on April 27. “Musik-Festival Mitte Europa” will be providing TMGS with a grand piano by Förster for the whole duration of their stage performance.
