Management and corporate works council agreed on reduction of working hours by ten percent in four months’ time / executive employees waive five percent of their wages

 

In the course of only one week, the management and the corporate works council at TUI Deutschland GmbH agreed on a model involving the introduction of reduced working hours, and an according works council agreement was recently signed. Between May 2009 and January 2010, 1,600 employees of TUI Deutschland, as well as 200 employees working for the company on behalf of its temporary employment firm TUI aqtiv will be working more than 10 percent less throughout four months of their choice. Every employee will thus be granted eight days off in return for foregoing 2.8 up to a maximum of 5 percent of their net wages. The management and executive employees will not be working reduced hours, but they are showing solidarity by jointly waiving five percent of their monthly basic wages.

 

The management and the corporate works council agree that reduced working hours are a very effective instrument for the stabilization of the economic situation and the protection of jobs.
