Air Berlin are expanding their long-haul program and will again be offering flights to China by the beginning of the Chinese new year. This allows for the cooperation with Hainan Airlines, the fourth largest air carrier of China. Both companies agreed on the joint marketing of flights between Berlin and Beijing starting from January 25, 2009.
Hainan has been maintaining the connection since September 2008 and flies to the Middle Kingdom up to three times a week. Air Berlin, in turn, realizes connection flights from Germany (Düsseldorf, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Cologne, Munich, Münster-Osnabrück, Nürnberg, Stuttgart), Austria (Vienna) and Switzerland (Zurich). The joint flights (codeshare flights) are being sold among each other and handled under the respective carrier’s own flight number.
Customers benefit from a larger range of flight offers and convenient connection options. Participants of frequent flier programs of Air Berlin and Hainan Airlines have been able to collect and redeem miles in both route networks since November 2008.
The codeshare connections are now bookable around the clock via internet (airberlin.com), Air Berlin Service Center (Tel.: 01805-737 800 from Germany, Tel.: 0820-737 800 from Austria, Tel.: 0848-737 800 from Switzerland) as well as in travel agencies.
