For a country rich in culture and natural wonders like Malaysia, tourism is a great economic pillar. In the past year, despite the global economic turmoil Malaysia still got achievements in the tourism industry.
“For the period of January to September last year, we recorded a 3.7% increase in tourist arrivals at 20.11 million compared to 19.39 million for the same period in 2018. We also managed to increase foreign tourist spending for the same period last year by 6.66 percent to MYR66.14 billion compared with MYR61.85 billion for the same period in 2018,” Minister Datuk Mohammadin Ketapi said.
To improve tourism sustainability, to bring out the best of what Malaysia has to offer to the world, and experience Malaysian hospitality first-hand, Malaysian Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad launched the ‘Visit Malaysia 2020’ (VMY2020) with the theme ‘Visit Truly Asia Malaysia 2020’, to attract 30 million foreign tourists with a target of MYR 100 billion in spending.
As one of the series of the VMY2020 campaigns, Malaysia Tourism and Travel Mart 2020 (MTTM) was launched in line with the goal of VMY 2020, it will kick off from 18 to 20 June at Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur. Organised by CEMS Conference & Exhibition (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd and strongly supported by Ministry of Tourism, Art and Culture, Malaysia, Malaysia Convention and Exhibition Bureau, and the Visit Malaysia 2020. MTTM is an important platform for local and regional outbound travel operators and stakeholders to seek and realise opportunities in the international tourism and travel industry.
