During the inauguration of Destino Capital – MITM Americas & CULTOURFAIR 2017 – November 14/17 in Santo Domingo – his Excellency Mr. Francisco Javier García, Minister of Tourism of Dominican Republic will receive an original reproduction of the “Carta de Juan de la Cosa” for his notable contribution in the amalgamation of Iberoamerican countries in the tourism sector.
Juan de la Cosa, Spanish sailor and cartographer that accompanied Columbus on his two first voyages and was the owner of the caravel Santa Maria, it was him who drew up the letter in the port of Santa María (Cádiz) on 1500, at the end of his voyage.

The original letter is located in the Naval Armada Museum of Madrid. It’s the most important cartographic document of the time, in which the American continent is represented for the first time in history, it holds 212º of the equator´s circumference, its 1.85 meters long by 0.92 wide and it was drawn to be presented to the Catholic Monarchs, the New World that had been discovered.

The meridian can be clearly appreciated that signals the interpretation of the Tordesillas Treaty of the 7th of June 1494, according to the papal bull of Alejandro VI that splits the new territory of the orient to Portugal and of occident to Spain. It can also be observed the most notorious castles of the known World and their kings.

The compass Rose is decorated with a representation of the Virgin Mary holding baby Jesus.
The naming covers all coasts and its written in the original language of the region and of the time period of which it was discovered.

The ceremony will be held in a solemn act by Don Juan Antonio Lago Novas, Marquis of Castell-Florite and president of the ”Asociación de la Carta de Juan de la Cosa” at the instance of Ms. Charo Trabado, CEO of GSAR Marketing and legal representative of the aforementioned document in “Iberoamerica”.
