The Thailand Travel Mart 2016 Plus Amazing Gateway to the Greater Mekong Sub-region (TTM+ 2016) opened with a creative and colourful display that welcomed delegates by showcasing the cultural wonders of the Lanna kingdom. The welcome reception was presided over by H.E. General Tanasak Patimapragorn, Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand, and was held at the state-of-the-art Chiang Mai International Exhibition and Convention Centre (CMECC).
Joining H.E. General Tanasak in extending a warm welcome to more than 850 delegates from 55 counties were H.E. Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Thailand’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Mr. Kalin Sarasin, Chairman of the Board of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), and Mr. Yuthasak Supasorn, Governor of TAT, as well as senior tourism executives of Thailand, Cambodia, Lao PDR, Vietnam and Myanmar.

H.E. General Tanasak made a speech to warmly welcome all of the delegates, following remarks from both H.E. Kobkarn and
Mr. Yuthasak.

Through a colourful display, the Thai Lanna-influenced Welcome Reception showcased the glories of Lanna’s ancient and time-honoured traditions, some of which live on to this day. Delegates were also treated to cuisine as well as culture as they sampled local dishes in a traditional buffet, known as a Kad Mua. Throughout the evening, there were cultural performances that harked back to the ancient court of Lanna, with ASEAN partners Cambodia and Vietnam also staging shows and adding to the cultural mix.
