195 Bottles, 1 Message – Heart of Oneness
195 Bottles, 1 Message is a light art object by Dutch artists Saskia Hoogendoorn and Lieuwe Martijn from Tijdmakers, a renowned creative studio in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The work was inspired by the famous words of Amsterdam’s former alderman Floor Wibaut: “There is only one country: earth. There is only one people: humans. There is only one religion: love.” It sends across an inspiring message of love and oneness of the world.”

Saskia Hoogendoorn: “195 Bottles, 1 Message is a new version of the original work ‘178 Bottles, 1 Message’ we made for the Amsterdam Light Festival 2014-2015. The heart-shaped art is made of 195 bottles with LED lights to represent 195 countries in the world, symbolising a world that lives in harmony as one with the love that people have for each other. The public is invited to interact and play with this art work, to show and share their selfies and their love for each other on social media.”

Floating Light – An Infinite Universe of Light Beams
Floating Light plays with optical illusion of a dark space and floating light beams to create a visual experience that doesn’t end in itself. First exhibited at Amsterdam Light Festival 2013-2014, it is a light art installation by Wouter Brave, a lighting artist and light architect known for his masterful integration of reflecting surfaces.

Wouter Brave: “Floating Light will give its spectators the sensation of floating in space in an abstract world, being surrounded by an endless choreography and an illusion of light beams multiplied indefinitely by mirrors. Interaction through physical contact when the spectators pass through the installation makes the light tubes ‘dance’ gently.”

Synergetic Lotus – A Sonata of Light
Synergetic Lotus is a collaboration of Dr Priyakorn Pusawiro, an interaction design technologist, and Joakim Hannerz, a Swedish architect and designer. As its source of inspiration, lotus has always been a powerful and profound symbol. It has been worshipped and admired naturally. Also, it has inspired many poetic and artistic interpretations throughout the history of mankind.

Dr Priyakorn Pusawiro: “Synergetic Lotus portrays the beauty of a natural lotus through state-of-the-art software and digital technology. We integrated intuitive hardware-software interfaces and computer programming to a beautiful work of art. The result is an interactive art piece that invites everyone to try manipulating it and explore the nuances of life. The colors, movement, and spectra of the lights from the Lotus not only represent greatly diversified species of lotus flowers found on earth, but also harmonise insight and transcend awareness of how we cannot always control all the things that we face in life, including emotions, love, wisdom, mysticism, and various events that we encounter in life.”

Chairful – The Chairs of Unity
Chairful was created by a team of students from KMUTT’s computer engineering department to represent religious diversity of people around the world and an attitude that people with different beliefs and religions can live in harmony.

Representative of Chairful creators: “The world is full of different beliefs and religions. If we are open-minded enough to learn these differences, we will be able to understand others and ultimately bring peace to the world. With our work, when someone sits on one of the chairs, it illuminates in a color that represents one religion or belief. If many people sit on these chairs at the same time, different colors of different chairs will gradually mix together into one as if the differences homogenise, leading to unity based on mutual understanding.”

In the Midst of Dreams – Wishing A Dream Comes True
In the Midst of Dreams is a lighting installation by another team of KMUTT’s computer engineering students. By integrating special effects, their work visualises beliefs about making wishes and enables enjoyable interaction with the spectators.

Representative of In the Midst of Dreams creators: “Based on beliefs revolving around prayers, our work takes spectators into the world in which a lot of people hope their dreams would come true by making wishes. It is a world of mixed results, with some fulfilled and others disappointed depending on the timing and how they respond to opportunities that come their way. Visitors can interact with this work for fun by touching one of the lampposts at their own choice, which equates making a wish, and see whether the lamp lights up (wish granted) or remains unlit (wish not granted). In real life, however, when someone has a dream to pursue, taking action is the key to the success.”

Light up the Nature – Lights Amidst Nature
Light up the Nature will expose spectators to a creative combination of green foliage and lighting design in the heart of the city. Another work of art by KMUTT’s computer engineering students, lovely nature is exquisitely adorned by the beauty of lights in this perfect installation.

Representative of Light up the Nature creators: “City people today have less time to appreciate nature. Our work reintroduces nature to city life through an installation of wetland grass. In addition to representation of nature, this plant symbolises solidarity of people in the nation: the grasses that tuft together form dense mats of roots that hold the ground securely, comparable to strong unity of people that helps the nation weathers the storm. Illuminated tips of the grass leaves make an allusion to the power of creativity and the potentials of Thai people, in line with a saying that ‘Thais are not any less capable than any other nationalities’.”
